Travel information

An adventure inland? The highlights of Iceland with our ‘tour of Iceland’? Or brave the winter conditions? And new in 2021 is an adventurous 7-day holiday with 5 days of hiking on the Laugavegur (top 10 most beautiful hikes in the world according to Lonely Planet), only for die-hards! a more luxurious hotel trip with a chance of seeing the Northern Lights and a ‘low-budget’ trip around Iceland!

Of course there is something to be said for everything!

First look at the dates, the inland trip can only be done in the summer, in winter, spring and autumn the roads are simply closed through the interior. The first 2 dates have very long days, which will give you a lot of energy. Beautiful purple colored nights because the sun barely sets! In August the days are shorter, but still long enough, and August also often has better weather! And on the last two dates you have a serious chance of seeing the Northern Lights!

Winter is great, there’s a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights and the cold isn’t too bad! However, you do have to be somewhat flexible on this trip, sometimes due to extreme weather. It may happen that a pass is closed, resulting in adjustments to the program.

Finally, the ’round’; The same applies here as for domestic travel. The dates in May and June have the beautiful nights, energy and long days with lots of light, while we can almost guarantee that you will see the Northern Lights in September!

If you want to book a trip with us, or take an option on a trip, this works as follows:

Take option:

You send us an email with the name and date of the trip you want to have an option on. If the travel date is at least 4 months in the future, we can give you a reflection period of 3 weeks from the moment we receive your email. You will always receive an answer to your email from us about when your option runs and when it expires.

If the trip departs within 4 months, you will be given a 2-week option. If the travel date is within two months, you can get an option of 1 week.

Please note: if the costs for the airline tickets, often just before departure, are above average. Can we ask you to pay a surcharge? This is always done in close consultation with each other.

Booking:

You can book directly and pay the deposit or the entire amount by iDeal (Netherlands) or Bancontact (Belgium).

If, due to certain circumstances, you are unable to make the down payment immediately, but you would like to participate, we will be happy to think with you about an alternative solution. Send an email so that we can temporarily reserve a spot for you.

You can email info@localadventures.is

On all Local Adventures trips there are 6 to 12 travelers and the tour leader.

You can always email us for the composition in terms of gender and age.

As far as we can now estimate the number of bookings and options, the male/female ratio is virtually the same.

In a group tour, most of us are strangers to each other. It’s great fun to get to know new people, of course. Friendships are often formed for life!

Treat each other with respect, as you would like to be treated. We do not accept forms of racism, whether it concerns skin color, religion or orientation.

Traveling as a couple? Of course that’s possible!

Are you from Belgium and do you speak the Dutch language? Of course you are welcome with us!

Flight tickets are included on our trips unless stated otherwise.

We usually fly with Transavia or Icelandair.

The tickets include 10kg of hand luggage and, depending on the company, 20kg to 23kg of checked luggage. If you come from the south of the Netherlands or Belgium, it is possible to fly from Brussels or Dusseldorf on certain dates. This will of course be done in consultation with us. We will pass on any additional costs to you.

In certain circumstances it is also possible to fly back a day earlier or back later. Please always contact us by telephone or email.

Financial

If you book a trip with Local Adventures, you can pay the entire payment or the deposit online immediately when booking via iDeal or Bancontact.

The down payment is 30% of the total travel sum and must be paid via your own bank. The remaining payment must be made no later than 6 weeks before the start of your trip. You will receive a message about this by email approximately 8 weeks before departure.

Local Adventures is registered in Iceland with the RSK (the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce) under the name LAdventures Ehf. as a partnership under Firm, at the address Laekjarbakka 3, 561 Varmahlid.

Our registration number is 431218-054.

In Iceland it works about the same as in the Netherlands regarding the rules as we know here at, for example, the SGR and ANVR. The Icelandic bank holds travelers’ money until the last day of your trip. In the exceptional case that your trip is canceled for whatever reason, the bank will refund the money to your own account.

We are also affiliated with similar organizations to those in the Netherlands, such as the Icelandic Tourist Board. Together with the bank, this organization guarantees that your money is in safe hands with us, so in the event of cancellation, bankruptcy or disaster you are always guaranteed your deposit or full payment back. Our license is 2019-023.

You can view our reviews on the domestic trip site or on Facebook via this link.

Taking out travel insurance is mandatory.

You may already have (continuous) travel insurance, but we can also arrange that for you. We can also take out cancellation insurance for you if you cannot come for certain reasons. No desire or weather conditions are of course not valid reasons for cancellation. This must be done within 7 days of booking the trip. If you would like this, please contact us immediately after booking so that we can provide you with a quote.

Also pay attention to your insurance to see what is included in the insurance, if you go in the winter and want to go skiing or go diving in the summer in Iceland (yes, that is possible!) you often have to adjust your insurance.

You can read more about travel insurance in the Conditions.

If the trip is canceled due to a lack of participants, we will let you know no later than 3 weeks before the start of the trip and we will immediately refund the paid amount to your account.

We often know in advance whether a trip will or will not take place and we try to keep you informed as much as possible!

General information

Everyone knows by now that our environment is not doing so well. Climate change, glaciers disappearing and animals threatened with extinction. We now fully realize that our travels, which involve flying and unfortunately it is not (yet) possible to drive through the interior with an electrically powered 4×4, also play a role in this.

We plant a tree in Iceland in the area of Varmahlid in the north for every traveler who comes with us. This also applies to the travelers who have experienced adventures with us in recent years. The first trees will therefore be planted in the autumn of 2021. In collaboration with a local farmer, we are going to make Iceland a bit greener again!
